Dear esteemed members of The Korean Society of Anesthesiologists,
The Korean Society of Anesthesiologists has achieved both qualitative and quantitative growth, with more than 60 years of tradition and more than 5,600 members. As you have seen in KoreAnesthesia 2018, our scientific conference has become truly international, with 250 foreign participants from 26 countries. Additionally, our scientific journal, the Korean Journal of Anesthesiology, has achieved a great feat by being recently indexed on Medline. I would like to express my gratitude to our predecessors, previous executive board members, and all members for their devotion and effort in leading our Society to where it is are today.
The field of anesthesiology that began in operating rooms has now progressed to playing pivotal roles in all areas of medical care, including pre- and post-operative care, acute chronic pain management, intensive care, surgical anesthesia and sedation, and hospice care. In particular, we are the foundation for the protection of patient safety, a social issue with growing importance. In order to substantially reduce anesthesia- or sedation-related accidents, we need to tackle problems such as insufficient insurance fees, deficiency in workforce and equipment, and unqualified personnel performing anesthesia or sedation. In addition to the academic development, our Society should also focus on political and social issues such as protecting the rights of its members, enhancing the status of the anesthesiology field, and ensuring national anesthetic safety.
Recently, many talented residents have shown interest in the field of anesthesiology. Realizing the significant hurdle posed by the Resident Specialty Act these days, I seek to revise the training curriculum for residents, who are the future of our Society as a whole. The previous curriculum was skewed in that it focused on quantitative training, and I propose that it be changed to a competency-based training curriculum. We need to discuss what the core competency of anesthesiology is and how it can be evaluated and taught. For this purpose, expansion of simulation training and enhancement of training through workshops are needed.
We are going to make continued efforts in the current projects of our Society that had been promoted by our predecessors, including reinforcement of activities by the Insurance Committee, further globalization of our scientific conference, and registration of our journal in the Science Citation Index. In order to achieve these goals, support and interest of our members are of utmost importance. I sincerely request for your advice and support. The 21st executive board of the Korean Society of Anesthesiologists vows to devote ourselves to upholding the values of our Society so as to increase the sense of pride in our esteemed members.
I wish good health and prosperity to all of our members.
President of The Korean Society of Anesthesiologists
In Cheol Choi
Respected and dear member of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Our Korean anesthesia and pain medicine department had a shortage of applicants since November 10, 1956. As a result of the efforts of many members, including the chairman and president of the KSA, we thank you for changing the name of the society and producing and training talented professionals.
I think a lot of effort is needed to raise the status of the society.
During the course of your training, you will need to work correctly in the operating room, pain treatment room and intensive care unit.
I think it is necessary to continue the education of the regular members.
We will conduct ultrasound training for the medicine.
We will encourage you to participate in the KSA.
As a top expert in the management of pre, middle, and post-surgery and critically ill patients, a specialist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and a specialist in pain management, the training is designed to serve as a key medical personnel to protect patients' lives and eliminate pain, thereby promoting patient happiness. It is necessary to make a chapter.
The National Patient Safety Foundation, a foundation that focuses on patient safety and medical standards in the United States, is leading the social awareness of patient safety ahead of the Republic of Korea. It was an atmosphere to compare.
Especially at urgent surgical sites such as emergency departments and trauma centers where safe anesthesia is important, the safety of a patient is determined by the presence of an experienced anesthesiologist and physician. In fact, there are many cases of death during endoscopy and plastic surgery due to the absence of anesthesiologist. Therefore, it is necessary to foster anesthesia and pain medicine at the national level, and policy support must be provided to enable active anesthesia medicine specialists to work in the right place. No matter how small a hospital is, we will try to get funding from the Research Foundation or the Ministry of Health and Welfare if we have only the will for research and the professional staff to do it.
Currently, sports pain medicine, attention to sports disaster prevention, and medical support for military training are closely related to anesthesia and pain medicine. I plan to make it possible for anesthesiologists to advance. "
We will promote anesthesia and exchange in countries where the development of anesthesia and pain medicine is less than in Korea.
We will help the development of the society by helping the current board of directors.
- Strengthen professional membership education
- Revitalize international exchange and train English lecturers
- Raising the Journal Phase
- Promote exchange with other societies
- Efforts for patient safety.
- Reinforcement of education before, during and after
We will study safe methods of anesthesia and encourage academic activities to share them. We will also work to defend the interests of academicians.
If you ask for your active participation and interest, we will do our best to do our best.
Let's work hard together for the development of the society.
